JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

Job Title:              Pharmacy Technician

Department:      Automation

Division:               Extended Care

Reports To:         Director of Pharmacy

 

 

Summary of Position

 

Processing medication rolls for Nursing Homes and Assisted Living facilities.  We also do pre-pack and new admissions and filling packaging machine trays accurately with over 2000 different medications.

 

Essential Job Requirements:

 

Process homes using Rescot data processing and transferring in Unix System

Fill trays/canister (refilling prescription medication machine)

Change paper on machine and ribbon

Order drugs

Check each pill on med roll

 

Educational Requirements:

High School diploma or graduate equivalent degree; Certified Pharmacy Technician school and State of Tennessee certificate preferred.

 

 

Experience Requirements:

One (1) years experience and specific knowledge preferred

 

 

Skills & Equipment Requirements:

 

Must be able to use the computer and Auto Med machine.  Professional and courteous demeanor/attitude; math aptitude for calculating dosage and quantity dispensed per day supply, perform repetitive tasks accurately, close attention to detail, work well with others, ability to maintain patient confidentiality, strong communication skills, knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and calculations; knowledge of medication – generic, brand and preferred brands; knowledge of computer systems, knowledge of insurance and third party payment systems; telephone, and computer/fax equipment

  

Physical Requirements:

Hearing and Vision – 90% of the time

Bending – 5% of the time

Lifting – 10lbs; 10% of the time

Excellent hand/eye coordination

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

None

 

Working Conditions :

 

Closed door pharmacy environment
